IP for Broadcast Facilities (SDVN)

Software Defined Video Networking

Software Defined Video Networking

Launched in 2014, Evertz Software Defined Video Networking (SDVN) solutions has been leading the industry's transition to IP using SMPTE ST 2110 and AMWA NMOS. With over 600 installations by the largest media companies in the world, Evertz SDVN has been deployed from small to very large enterprise scale applications that include production, playout, transport, and distribution.

Evertz SDVN is a complete solution that includes advanced orchestration, monitoring, and analysis tools that have full control of high capacity switch fabrics and edge devices.

  • Scalable

A move to IP allows media organizations to scale their system to any size, across all geographic regions, while future proofing for new formats and platforms.

  • Agile

An IP facility provides increased agility where media organizations can add or remove services quickly to maximize revenue and lower operational costs.

  • Flexible

IP enables flexibility. Build a format agnostic facility to support various content types, multiple standards, and streams for both compressed and uncompressed video.

  • Proven

Evertz is the proven leader in IP. With over 600 global installations, Evertz SDVN is the solution used by the largest media companies in the world.

  • Reliable

Leverage our IP solution to provide frame accurate, reliable, and secure services with highly available architectures.

  • Visible

IP provides a new and efficient way to manage broadcast media facilities. SDVN Orchestration, Monitoring, and Analysis tools such as MAGNUM-OS provide unprecedented control and visibility.

Key Features

SDVN Orchestration, Monitoring, and Analytics

MAGNUM-OS is a full stack software set that provides a control, orchestration, monitoring and analytics in a single solution. It Bridges all of the major components of SDVN systems within the broadcast path under an enterprise software set of capabilities enabling broadcasters to simplify facility workflow and gain efficiency while reducing operational costs.

As the SDVN orchestration and control layer, MAGNUM-OS leverages Evertz and 3rd Party 10/100GE high capacity switch fabrics, media IP gateways, and to enable broadcasters, content distributors and service providers a flexible, format agnostic and scalable infrastructure for SD, HD, 3G, and Ultra HD (4K and 8K) video and audio.

Additionally MAGNUM-OS provides provide most comprehensive end-to-end facility and signal monitoring and management system for broadcasters and service providers. This is provided through fault management, configuration management, alarm / event notification, report and log management, intelligent correlation and root cause analysis, user-defined graphic views / dashboards.

This is followed up with MAGNUM-OS providing the ability to extract and analyze data from any source device in the system. Evertz' unique scenario, pattern-matching, machine learning algorithms, notification subsystems and direct integration allowing MAGNUM-OS to provide powerful tool sets that extends beyond basic log analysis.

Switch Fabrics

Specialized Switch Fabrics

Evertz offers a wide range of high capacity IP Switch Fabrics for all types of facilities. Evertz' enterprise scale 9RU EXE3.0-VSR routing platform can support 16,384 uncompressed 3G signals in a single frame. The switch fabrics use SFP+, SFP28+ and QSFP28 technology to support 1 / 10 / 25 / 50 / 100 / 400GbE interfaces to meet any uncompressed video standard today and in the future.

COTS Switches

Evertz can also design a system utilizing traditional Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) routing switches at its core. Unlike other broadcast IP routing systems utilizing COTS architecture, Evertz can offer direct API control of COTS switches. This higher level, a more deterministic method of control, has been developed through Evertz' experience integrating our SDVN solution with COTS switch fabrics in several installations (from small to enterprise scale) that are currently on air today. This level of API control enables COTS switches to perform with measurable and repeatable low latency clean switching that cannot be matched by other vendors offering COTS based solutions. Evertz API control can be utilized by many different COTS brands including Arista and Cisco.

* Not limited to the Cisco / Arista Switches shown above

Edge Devices

Evertz SDVN has an extensive list of Edge Devices that can be used in an IP-based facility. Depending on the function of the edge device, various types of interfaces may be supported: 12 / 3G / HD-SDI, ASI, AES / MADI, and / or 10GbE / 25GbE / 100GbE. Each Evertz Edge Device has a main and backup Ethernet port (with support for ST 2022-7) for redundancy.
